The Prime Minister has extended greetings ahead of Spiritual/Shouter Baptist Liberation Day tomorrow.

Dr Keith Rowley says the public holiday celebrated is an expression of the country’s commendation of the struggle of the Spiritual/Shouter Baptist Faith to establish a basic civil right – the right to worship.

He adds that the faith must be commended for its resistance to the British colonial authorities and for insisting on the right of its followers to worship and to express the spiritual inspiration they felt deep within.

Also extending greetings, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar says the holiday commemorates the historic triumph over decades of ingrained colonial persecution.

She adds that they have shown courage, resilience, strength and faith.

She is specifically urging the Spiritual/Shouter Baptist community to say a prayer for T&T, to overcome the darkness of crime and violence.
